BARBERA D'ASTI DOCG 2023

A very ancient grape variety, the first documented mention of Barbera d'Asti DOCG appears in a 17th-century document preserved in the town hall of Nizza Monferrato in Piedmont. In 1798, it was officially included in the list of Piedmontese grape varieties when the first Ampelography was compiled by the Agricultural Society of Turin, which states: "It is a very well-known grape and one of the main bases of the wines of the Asti and lower Monferrato areas, where it is indigenous and has been cultivated for a very long time." A DOC designation since 1970, it was awarded DOCG status in 2008.
